    Completely agree on this! 170 Hz and 500 Hz kills anything metal. After the summer holidays we're starting our second album with the metal band. I will probably join the Kult during the production :D

    Just pulling down those two frequencies is some kind of magical power. That was some killer stuff (and I gotta watch the course now). The difference on the 150Hz cut in the first example was way more noticeable than I thought it would be; without the cut, it actually sounded like someone had thrown a towel inside the kick drum. I don't know that I've ever described a kick drum as having "presence", but the cut definitely gave it more of that! Awesome as always, brother! :)

    Hey Kristian, what do you think will happen if I use it with two signal coming from a MIMIQ pedal? Do you think the MIMIQ pedal split the signal already in phase enough that the plugin would do pretty much nothing? Or maybe it will try to phase align both signal ruining the MIMIQ's effect?

    250 for my metal guitars especially the dual rec, nowadays I tend to stick an EQ in the FX loop and cut the 250 right there

    Ok -here's the real deal on the G12T-75 - you can find them cheap because of the unfair bad rap they get ...AND in the old Peavey tube amps, they sound great! Take out the Scorpions and Blue Marvels and ESPECIALLY the Valve King speakers and you made your cheap Peaveys a rock n roll machine ;)

    Honestly I tend to reduce the entire 200-550hz range because in my opinion they are very overpowering in a bad way. Also 5k is just a nasty harsh frequency

  • @SimonKranzDrums
    @SimonKranzDrums 10 годин тому

    If 500 Hz is the antithesis of everything Metal, shouldn't it be boosted in Schlager mixes? 😃 Before watching the video, I predicted 250 and 500 Hz to be the chosen trouble spots - and I wasn't disappointed!

    And the next frequensies were around 500hz which is also some of those nasty areas where stuff builds up in metal. Kinda knew all of that but by trial and error but it's always cool to see that pro did it the same way.:D Were there a thing in this channel that said 350hz is an enemy of metal or something. :D Cool video again and cheers.

  • @SecretMetalFromAbyss
    @SecretMetalFromAbyss 12 годин тому

    Yeah that 120-240hz area really fucks up the low end energy if there's too much of it in the mix. usually I find that bass and guitars build up so much mud in those regions so fixing that in master bus makes lot of sense as there isn'nt that much important stuff going on with other instruments expect the snares bottom end.:D

    This plug-in is more about time alignment than phase alignment. Phase shifts introduced with filtering(for example, Eq on a parallel track) will not compensate with this. Using two amplifiers always causes randomness in the spectrum when mixed together, even if both signals arrive at the same time. However, this is not always a problem. Sounds with completely different dynamic response(completely different gain structures) mix quite well. But even two sounds that do ugly phasing mixed in equal proportions can be balanced by levels in such a way that the final effect will be more interesting than from a single source, but in that case one of the signals must be much quieter.

    Here is the true killer method following, it never failed me. As Kohle highlighted, the method in this video does not work so well with plugins, and indeed it is not very good for mono compatibility, there is quite some volume drop actually (because most simulated amps do not care about polarity change). The presented method also have a side effect of still having mid soundy and not true double track sound. Sorry it is a YT comment section so I try to be short still hopefully understandable and useful. Double tracking fundamentally is: random time and dynamic shifts between the 2 tracks, most of the tone changes being carried by the reaction of the amp to the change of the input level (so the dynamic of the guitarist), though the guitarist play has a small impact on it. So the process should be in this order for one of the dupplicated tracks: random gain automation slight modifications over time -> subtle input dependent saturation stage (optional for distorted guitars but mandatory for clean tones, simulating the guitarist playstyle impact on the tone)-> slight time shift random automation -> amp, DONE. Also this method is far superior in realism to the method proposed here, whatever with real amps or not. For automation, one need to use one LFO random controller applied to the gain and another one for the shift value. This is very easy to do at least in Reaper, because LFO random controller is built in the automation section of the DAW.

    I own a 3 channels Dual Rectifier (from 2009) for 2 years now, and honestly, I never found a satisfying sound, with flubby/muddy lows at high gain, and never found a satisfying balance between the 3 channels. It's one of my dream amp, and a great disappointment. With the effects loop adding extra frequencies and volume changes (adding an EQ in the loop is a true challenge !), I decided to mod my Rectifier instead of sell it. Just changing a cap (cathode bypass cap on V1A tube), changing the gain pot on red channel and bypassing the effects loop buffer, it's a new amp, keeping the original Rectifier character, but hugely more tweakable and manageable. And I'm sure I can get better modifying some caps on other stages... But right now, I LOVE my Rectifier. A few components for a few euros/bucks and a little know-how (the internet is your friend), it's simple, right?
